Good News! Students from Our College Achieve Outstanding Results at the 8th National University Students Welding Innovation Competition

The 8th National University Students' Welding Innovation Competition, alongside the Symposium on Teaching for Welding Technology and Engineering Majors, was successfully held at the International Conference Center, Youyi Campus of Northwestern Polytechnical University from May 16 to 18, 2025.

More than 850 experts, faculty members and students from 85 institutions including Harbin Institute of Technology, Tianjin University, Jilin University and Dalian University of Technology took part in the competition. Our college dispatched four teams to compete in two categories: fixed-topic events and open-topic events.

After two days of fierce competition, outstanding awards were achieved as follows, marking the best performance in the college’s history of participation:

· First Prize: Intelligent Detection Technology for Welded Structure Surfaces and Industrial Application Software Development, supervised by Associate Professors Zhao Xiaohui and Chen Chao;

· Second Prizes:

1. Biodegradable Mg-Zn-Zr Alloys Fabricated via Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Their Corrosion Resistance Mechanism, supervised by Lecturers Liang Jingwei and Su Jinlong;

2. High-Strength and Tough Steel Composite Plates Fabricated by Laser Deposition Additive Manufacturing, supervised by Professors Zhang Xinge and Li Hongmei;

· Third Prize: Research on Impact Properties of Aluminum-Titanium Composite Plates, supervised by Lecturer Gu Xiaopeng.

The School of Materials Science and Engineering has always attached great importance to cultivating students’ engineering competence, innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. By integrating scientific research with teaching and linking industry practice with education, the school consistently fosters and upgrades students’ innovative and entrepreneurial literacy. Going forward, the school will continue to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and steadily elevate the quality of undergraduate talent training.
