From July 12 to 14, 2024, the 8th ZEISS · Chinese Society for Stereology Cup National University Student Microanalysis Competition and the 6th Laizhou Huayin · Chinese Society for Stereology Cup National University Student Comprehensive Materials Skills Competition, hosted by the Chinese Society for Stereology and its Metallography & Microanalysis Branch, concluded successfully at Northeastern University. Around 200 contestants from 43 universities across the country took part in the events.

Cao Yutong, an undergraduate student from our school, won the Grand Prize in the Microanalysis Competition as well as the exclusive ZEISS Special Award. Hu Huaibi and Ji Yutong received First Prizes, while Huang Haibo was awarded a Second Prize. In the Comprehensive Materials Skills Competition, Li Shiyu claimed a First Prize. Teacher Yang Xiaohong from our school served as a judge for the Microanalysis Competition. The participating student team was guided and led by faculty members Yang Xiaohong, Wang Yuanbo and Liu Zhihui from the Metallic Materials Engineering program.

These two competitions are designed to guide universities to consolidate the foundational knowledge of materials majors in teaching, cultivate students’ practical hands-on capabilities in fundamental professional skills, spark their interest in materials disciplines, boost their academic motivation, and deepen their mastery of basic theories and scientific connotations of materials science. Moving forward, the School will continue to attach great importance to organizing academic competitions, encourage more students to participate in competitions at all levels, and advance diversified training and all-round development of students.
