Our School’s Team Wins Multiple Honors in the National Final of the 15th Casting Process Design Competition

The national final and award ceremony of the 2024 National College Students’ Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition – Foundry Process Design Contest was successfully held in Dalian, Liaoning Province from July 30 to August 2. The twelve teams coached by faculty members of our school achieved outstanding results in the national finals, winning three First Prizes, one Second Prize and seven Third Prizes. Meanwhile, the school was conferred the Special Contribution Award for Foundry Talent Cultivation, an honor granted to only ten universities nationwide.

The competition adopted a three-level tournament system consisting of school preliminaries, regional contests and national finals. A total of 132 universities signed up for the event, submitting 819 entries in total, among which 675 works qualified for the national final. The student participants from our university remained calm and delivered steady performances throughout the contest. During defense sessions, they elaborated thoroughly on the design concepts, core achievements and innovative highlights of their projects, fully demonstrating the youthful spirit and academic demeanor of materials students from Jilin University.

Organized by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the Foundry Process Design Contest under the National College Students’ Mechanical Engineering Innovation and Creativity Competition is co-undertaken by the Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Shenyang Research Institute of Foundry, CAM Group Co., Ltd. and other institutions. The contest aims to cultivate undergraduates’ innovative thinking, boost their creative capabilities and cultivate professional talents for the foundry industry. Launched for the first time in 2009, it has been successfully held for 15 sessions to date. More than 31,000 students from over 170 universities have taken part cumulatively. The contest has been included in the National University Academic Competition Ranking List for five consecutive times and listed as a National Category B Competition for universities.

In the future, the School will continue to attach great importance to cultivating students’ practical and hands-on capabilities, organize students to actively participate in academic competitions at all levels, advance teaching and learning via competition platforms, and sustainably elevate the quality and standard of undergraduate talent training.
