摘要:
Catalytic conversion of hydrocarbon waste into valuable chemicals and fuels offers a promising pathway to sustainable carbon resource utilization. However, conventional metal-based catalysts often suffer from rapid deactivation due to carbon deposition and nanoparticle sintering, particularly under the harsh operating conditions required for hydrocarbon reforming. Developing catalysts that maintain high activity and long-term structural stability while enabling scalable production remains a significant challenge.
Here, we report a kilogram-scale Ni–Mo catalyst supported on single-crystalline MgO. By exploiting the high-energy edges of single-crystal oxide supports, we introduce a catalyst stabilization strategy termed Nanocatalysts on Single-Crystal Edges (NOSCE). This approach stabilizes Ni–Mo nanoparticles and suppresses sintering and carbon deposition during high-temperature reforming. The resulting catalyst performs stably across various hydrocarbon feedstocks, including methane, light hydrocarbons, and aromatic compounds, under demanding reaction conditions.
Furthermore, we demonstrate this catalyst platform’s potential to convert waste-derived hydrocarbons into synthesis gas through integrated pyrolysis and catalytic reforming. The kilogram-scale synthesis and catalyst shaping highlight its potential for practical implementation. This work provides insights into how catalyst structure affects long-term stability and establishes a scalable strategy for sustainable valorization of hydrocarbon waste.
