On September 26, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Materials Science and Engineering discipline at Jilin University, the School of Materials Science and Engineering hosted the 2nd Alumni Forum.

Nearly 200 people attended the forum, including Sun Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the National Key Laboratory of Mechanical Behavior of Materials at Xi’an Jiaotong University, and an alumnus; Wang Huiyuan, president of Yanshan University and an alumnus; Zhang Guoxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Jilin University; Zheng Weitao, former member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and executive vice president of Jilin University; Wang Shoushi, former deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin University; Kang Yonggang, director of the Alumni and Foundation Affairs Office of Jilin University. Also in attendance were representatives from peer institutions, representatives of alumni from home and abroad, heads of functional departments and relevant units of the university, as well as current and retired faculty and staff, and student representatives of the school.

The forum was divided into four chapters and was moderated by Sun Heng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

Chapter I: “70 Years of Glory: Leading the Way and Building Dreams”

In his speech, Zhang Guoxing, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome to all alumni and guests, and expressed sincere gratitude to individuals from all walks of life who have long cared about and supported the development of the university. He highly praised the fruitful achievements made by the Materials Science and Engineering discipline over the past 70 years. He hoped that the school would take its 70th anniversary as a new starting point, pool the strength of its alumni, deepen the integration of industry, academia, and research, and make new and greater contributions to accelerating the building of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

Zhang Lijun reviewed the 70-year development history of the discipline. He introduced the progress made by the school in areas such as platform development, faculty building, scientific research achievements, and talent cultivation, and highlighted the plans and measures for the integration of industry, academia, and research, international cooperation, and teaching reform.

Chapter II: “Passing on the Torch: Dedication and Contribution”

On behalf of the school, Zhang Lijun presented the 70th Anniversary Outstanding Contribution Award to faculty representatives—Zheng Weitao, Jiang Yinshan, Jiang Qing, Jiang Qichuan, Li Mingzhe, and Sun Daqian—in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development of the Materials Science and Engineering discipline.

Young faculty representatives of the school presented flowers to pay tribute to the four successive deans since the university merger: Jiang Qichuan, Zheng Weitao, Wang Huiyuan, and Zhang Lijun.

At the meeting, Kang Yonggang, Director of the Alumni and Foundation Affairs Office of Jilin University, signed the Huatang Scholarship and Grant Agreement with Shaoxing Boxin Technology Co., Ltd. and Wang Xiuping, an alumnus of the Class of 1997. Zhang Lijun signed the Tuobang Scholarship Agreement with Zhao Huiyu, an alumnus of the Class of 2001 and Chairman of Jiangsu Tuobang Huachuang Technology Co., Ltd.

Chapter III: “Deep Affection for the Alma Mater: Fostering Future Generations”

Jiang Qichuan, initiator of the Qicai Education Fund, presented commemorative donation certificates to Qi Huan, Chairman of Tianjin Huirui Laser Technology Co., Ltd., and Liu Zhigang, an alumnus of the Class of 2000, in appreciation of their strong support for the development of the university and the school

At the Qicai Education Fund Award Ceremony, Vice Dean Zhao Xiaohui presented the Qicai Outstanding Teaching Award to Wang Haitao and Zhang Xinge. Song Yan, an alumnus of the Class of 2006, and Hua Rui, Vice Dean and Deputy Party Secretary, presented the Qicai Education Fund Outstanding Student Scholarship (and Grant) and the Qicai Education Fund-Beijing Zifeng Grant to the award-winning student representatives.

Chapter IV: “Pursuing Dreams Together: Shaping the Future”

At the alumni sharing session, five outstanding alumni—Wang Huiyuan, President of Yanshan University and an alumnus of the Class of 1994; Wang Junbo, Director of Department 9 at the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Sensor Technology, and an alumnus of the Class of 1991; Zhang Shiqing, Director of the Functional Material Element Institute at SINOMACH Chongqing Materials Research Institute, and an alumnus of the Class of 1995; Yu Haikuo, General Manager of Nanjing Tianshi New Material Technology Co., Ltd., and an alumnus of the Class of 1996; and Zhao Huiyu, Chairman of Jiangsu Tuobang Huachuang Technology Co., Ltd., and an alumnus of the Class of 2001—shared their respective research and industry experiences, delivering brilliant academic presentations and life insights to the faculty and students present.

After 70 years of forging ahead with determination, we strive to achieve new brilliance on the new journey. This forum has gathered the profound friendship and wisdom of the alumni, injecting new vitality into the school’s future development. The school will continue to deepen its collaboration with alumni—sharing resources, pursuing development together, and co-creating the future—to make new and greater contributions to the great cause of building a strong nation and national rejuvenation!
