The Online Information Session for the Joint Training Program between the School of Materials Science and Engineering and the University of Manchester Held Successfully
To further strengthen international academic exchanges, cultivate talents capable of meeting the demands of the new era, and endow students with innovative thinking and diverse perspectives, the School of Materials Science and Engineering held an online information session on its 2+2 and 3+2 joint training programs with the University of Manchester on November 28, 2023. Professor Cui Xiaoqiang, Vice Dean of the School, Yang Meichen, International Affairs Secretary, and more than 110 undergraduates from Grade 1 to Grade 3 of the School attended the session. The event was presided over by Professor Xiao Ping, International Director of the Department of Materials, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Manchester, UK.
At the opening of the session, keynote speaker Professor Xiao Ping delivered a detailed introduction covering the University of Manchester’s general profile, disciplinary strengths, campus culture and student exchange programs, helping students gain an in-depth understanding of the university’s materials discipline and international exchange initiatives. Afterwards, Vice Dean Cui Xiaoqiang and Professor Xiao Ping gave thorough answers to students’ questions concerning credit requirements, language proficiency standards, accommodation, expenses and training modes of the joint programs. Towards the end of the session, Professor Xiao Ping engaged in interactive discussions with students on topics related to materials science, and extended sincere wishes and high expectations for their academic growth.
This information session tightened the partnership between Jilin University and the University of Manchester, deepened students’ understanding of materials science, and assisted them in refining their career plans. It is of great significance for disciplinary development and fostering students’ global vision.
