The program is composed of the original programs of Casting, Metal and Plastic Processing and Wielding and Heat Treatment. It was rated as a Key Discipline of the former Ministry of Machinery and Jilin Province in 1988 and a National Key Discipline in 2001. And in 2007, the program was again selected as a National Key Discipline after evaluation.

Faculty and Staff

After years of improvement, the program has formed an excellent faculty team through enhanced support and cultivation of existing personnel and “Talent Project” to attract overseas Chinese talents. The policies under “Talent Project” have successfully attracted an expert in multi-point dieless forming, who had studied and worked in the United States. Due to these efforts, a well-structured and highly-proficient faculty team has been formed, in which one academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences plays a leading role, with one candidate for “Trans-Century Talents” of Ministry of Education, one candidate for “the New Century National Hundred Thousand-and-Ten Thousand Talents Project”, three candidates for “New Century Talents” of MOE, 28 professor(19 are Ph.D. Supervisors) and two doctors returning from Japan and Austria as core members. We have cultivated a group of internationally recognized academic leaders who are young and energetic, innovative and academically proficient with great global influence, as well as key academic members with nationwide influence in this discipline.

Talent Cultivation

In 2007, a PhD dissertation of Materials Processing Engineering (Second-level Discipline) was listed in the Top 100 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation. Since 2006, over 70 doctors and 359 master students have graduated with their degrees, and each doctor has published at least one paper that can be retrieved. Among them, 15 have won the scholarship provided by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lenovo Group and Baosteel Group, etc.
