The discipline of Materials Physics and Chemistry is affiliated with College of Materials Science and Engineering, Jilin University. It was formerly known as the JLU laboratory of Metal Physics and X-ray Crystallography founded in 1953, by the famous physicist Academician Yu Ruihuang. The discipline started its PhD program in 1998 and was rated as a key discipline of Jilin Province in 2002.

Faculty and Staff

There are 18 faculty members teaching in the discipline, including nine professors, of which eight are doctoral supervisors, and four associate professors. Among them, there is one winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Youth Scholars, one winner of the Young University Teacher Award of the Ministry of Education, one national selectee of the New Century Millions of Talents Projects, one visiting scholar in Switzerland supported by the CSC, and one postdoctoral fellow doing research in South Korea. After the construction of Project 211 during the Tenth Five-year Plan, 95% of our faculty members have obtained doctorates.

Talent Cultivation

Since 2006, the discipline has produced 49 doctors, over 56 masters and over 300 bachelors. Among the doctors, there is one winner of the Outstanding Youth Fund of Jilin Province; three professors; six postdoctoral fellows doing research in Japan, South Korea, and Peking University, etc; and four winners of Qiu Shi Scholarship in Hongkong and Tang Aoqing Scholarship.
