The 7th China–Norway International Symposium on Light Alloys and New Energy Materials (CNS 2023) was held in Tianjin from October 7 to 10, 2023, with Jilin University serving as one of the co-organizers. The conference was undertaken by the College of Materials Science and Engineering and the Key Laboratory of Automotive Materials of the Ministry of Education, Jilin University. More than 280 participants, including distinguished experts from China and Norway, representatives of Chinese industrial enterprises, and students, attended the event.

On the afternoon of October 7, a roundtable forum was held first, gathering over 30 prestigious scholars comprising national leading researchers and outstanding young talents. Participants engaged in open and in-depth discussions covering the development and industrial applications of light alloys and new energy materials.

On the morning of October 8, the opening ceremony and plenary lectures commenced. Professor Wang Huiyuan and Professor Cui Xiaoqiang delivered speeches on behalf of the co-organizer Jilin University. They extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all attendees and wished the symposium a great success.

Professor Zha Min from our college chaired all plenary sessions as the Conference Chair. Four distinguished invited plenary talks were delivered by Researcher Zhang Zhefeng from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Knut Marthinsen and Professor Li Yanjun from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), as well as Professor Gao Yipeng from Jilin University. The presentations covered the state-of-the-art progress and developmental trends of aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, and advanced material characterization techniques, followed by intensive discussions. In addition, Professor Marthinsen introduced the history and current research landscape of NTNU, reviewed the origin and evolution of the China–Norway Light Alloy Symposium series, and highly recognized the vital contributions of Chinese scholars and international students to academic exchanges between the two countries.

The conference featured five thematic parallel sessions: Design & Characterization, Deformation & Strengthening-Toughening, Fabrication & Applications, Corrosion & Functionalization, and New Energy Materials, alongside a poster exhibition session. Faculty and students from Jilin University delivered 1 plenary lecture and 21 oral presentations in parallel sessions.
